CEDR: The Center for Early Dispute Resolution
Introduction
CEDR (the Center for Early Dispute Resolution) is a neutral, confidential resource that assists DoDEA and its employees in addressing and managing conflicts and disputes constructively.
Conflict is a normal and natural part of life, but it can become destructive, damaging relationships, eroding respect and trust, and taking time and focus away from our mission of providing an exemplary education. The best way to manage or resolve conflict is to address it at the earliest possible time and the lowest possible level, before it escalates.
CEDR helps DoDEA and its employees to manage conflict in two respects.
- First, CEDR provides education and training to help employees obtain the skills and knowledge they need to talk productively with each other, with parents, and with anyone with whom they interact.
- Second, CEDR provides confidential, impartial assistance to address and resolve concerns and differences encountered at DoDEA, both by working with individuals and through processes involving impartial third party mediators or facilitators.
CEDR is currently conducting pilot projects at various DoDEA sites. It will use information gained from those pilots to develop plans for providing services to DoDEA schools and offices worldwide.
