Drug Abuse Resistance Education Officer (D.A.R.E.) Training

ARLINGTON, VA - The Department of Defense Education Activity will host training seminars for newly selected D.A.R.E. instructors in each of the areas in preparation for the coming school year.

The D.A.R.E. program is the DoDEA's primary drug education/prevention program for DoDDS and DDESS elementary and middle level students. D.A.R.E. gives children in grades K-12 the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs and violence. Founded in 1983 in Los Angeles, D.A.R.E. has proven to be so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation's school districts and in more than 43 countries around the world. More information about D.A.R.E. is available at http://www.dare.com/home.

D.A.R.E. America allows DoDEA to recruit volunteers for D.A.R.E. Officer Training (DOT) from among military security police personnel; and, on a case by case basis, where military security police personnel are unavailable, qualified active duty and DoD civilian personnel. This expands the available manpower options and enables schools to access appropriate resources beyond the local military security police personnel.
