Educators Convene in Lakewood to Discuss Effective Teaching Strategies

U.S. Department of Education workshops present new ways to teach familiar subjects and reach target student groups

Lakewood, Wash. is hosting one of 12 U.S. Department of Education free summer workshops that bring together some of the nation's most effective teachers and educators to share successful practices for raising student achievement in key academic areas. The workshop, co-sponsored by the Department of Defense Education Activity, will take place on Monday, August 4 - Tuesday, August 5 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. PDT at Lakeview Hope Academy and Elementary School in Lakewood, and bring together approximately 200 K-12 reading, math and science teachers and principals.

The workshops are part of the Department's ongoing Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative, which involves a variety of efforts to support teachers and keep them informed about strategies and research findings that help students meet high standards.
