DoDEA selects Daisy Schneider as Assistant Principal of the Year for 2009-2010

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA — The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) has chosen Daisy L. Schneider as the 2009-2010 Assistant Principal of the Year. Schneider has been the Assistant Principal at Antilles Elementary School at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico since 2005. She also served as a teacher and counselor at the school for over thirty years.

Prior to that, she also taught at Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico and at schools in Japan, France and Turkey.

"DoDEA could not have made a better choice than Daisy Schneider to serve as the DoDEA Assistant Principal of the Year,' said Mike Gould, New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District Superintendent. "Ms. Daisy' is an excellent example of what it means to have total commitment to the growth and development of children and to put forth all of your energy toward that cause.'

"She has an incredibly positive attitude and a natural interest in making learning fun for students and staff,' Gould added.

The DoDEA Assistant Principal of the Year for Elementary and Middle Level is awarded annually to recognize exemplary elementary and middle school assistant principals who set the pace, character, and quality of the education children receive during their early school years.

The award program's criteria includes examining how principals: assure all students are meaningfully engaged in active learning; connect professional development to school learning goals; use data as tools to identify barriers to success; design strategies for improvement and plan daily instruction; encourage parental involvement in the school and their child's individual learning; and participate in community service and professional activities as well as their awards and honors.

"I am extremely honored to receive this award and to be a part of the DoDEA program. I am very fortunate that I love my job and one of my most fervent passions is to promote an enthusiastic love of learning among students and staff. Working together with the entire community of stakeholders, I will continue to strive to provide a safe environment to promote highest student achievement, as well as to motivate students to follow the three R's: respect for self; respect for others; and responsibility for our actions.'

Schneider earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, Louisiana. She also earned a Master of Arts Degree from the Inter American University, in Ramey Puerto Rico and a Master of Science Degree from the University of Bridgeport, in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for Department of Defense (DoD) dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality, public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
