U.S. Blue Ribbon Schools Award Winners
in the Department of Defense Schools
A total of 30 Department of Defense Schools
have been selected for recognition as Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S.
Department of Education since the inception of this prestigious awards
program 18 years ago. Blue Ribbon Schools are selected from among all
U.S. public and private schools, and recognize school leadership, teaching,
curriculum, student achievement, and parental involvement.
On May 23, 2001, U.S. Secretary of Education
Rod Paige announced the latest winners. They included 223 public schools
and 41 private schools in 38 states, and one Department of Defense school,
SHAPE Elementary School in Mons, Belgium.
Paige said the selected schools shared
several characteristics including: |
| |
a clear vision and shared sense of mission;
a challenging, up-to-date curriculum;
policies and practices to ensure a safe campus conducive to learning;
evidence of family involvement; and
a commitment to help all students achieve high standards.>
