Announcement of the DoDEA Teacher of the Year

DoDEA proudly announces the 2014-15 Teacher of the Year as Ms. Sarah Loomis. Ms. Loomis was selected as Kaiserslautern’s District Teacher of the Year earlier this spring and serves as an Educational Technologist at Kaiserslautern Elementary School. She was selected from the 14 District Teachers of the Year. .

Ms. Loomis is known to be a strong collaborator and understands that the teacher’s role is to prepare students for the world beyond the classroom. Her peers say that her energy, zest for life, and her dedication are electrifying. During her virtual teacher of the year interview she passionately expressed that it is not about her; it is about the students, teachers, parents and community who she serves. She has been a shining light in her district’s transformation toward a true 21st Century learning environment ensuring that technology is seamlessly integrated so that students have opportunities to explore and discover during their learning process.

The Teacher of the Year selection process began at the nomination phase in fall 2013, progressed to district selections and concluded internally with the DoDEA wide Teacher of the Year selection. Ms. Loomis along with all District Teachers of the Year completed an application, which included education history, professional development experience, leadership roles assumed in the school, teaching practices and a teaching video.

Ms. Loomis will enter into The National Teacher of the Year program sponsored by the Council of Chief State Schools Officers (CCSSO) and will be among 56 other participants for the prestigious honor.

We congratulate Ms. Loomis and all of our 14 District Teachers of the Year for their commitment to their school communities. We celebrate with Ms. Loomis on this wonderful recognition.
