Puerto Rico, Strong and Resilient
Following Hurricane Maria, in Puerto Rico, most schools are still operating under difficult conditions but have begun to rebuild with promise. Administrators, teachers, and students at Fort Buchanan and Ramey School shared their accounts of the recovery effort and the progress being made towards normal operations with the DoDEA Director. As teaching and learning at Fort Buchanan and Ramey resume the DoDEA community in Puerto Rico has demonstrated a resilient spirit in the wake of the storm.

2017 Blue Ribbon School

US Dept. of Education Seal for Blue Ribbon Schools

Teachers gathered in the Multi-Purpose Room after school on 28 September 2017.  An announcement from Betsy Devos, Secretary of Education, was projected so all could hear that West Point Elementary School was selected as a Blue Ribbon School for 2017.  Congratulations were offered by Community Superintendent, Helen Balilo, DoDEA Mid Atlantic Director Emily Marsh, and DoDEA Principal Deputy Director, Linda Curtis via Lync.  There are plans for further celebrations in November.
