Ms. Kristy Fountain - AFNORTH ES Principal

Kristy Fountain is from Silverhill, AL. After graduating high school, Ms. Fountain attended Auburn University before transferring to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she graduated with her B.A. in History. Ms. Fountain returned to UNC-Wilmington and earned her teaching certificate in elementary education.

Ms. Fountain began her teaching career at E.C. Killin in Okinawa in 2006. She taught first grade and Multi-Age 4th/5th grade. While in Okinawa, Ms. Fountain earned her M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama. In 2009, Ms. Fountain accepted a teaching assignment at McBride Elementary on Fort Benning in Columbus, GA. Ms. Fountain earned her M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from Auburn University in 2012.

In January 2016, Ms. Fountain transferred to The Sullivans School in Yokosuka, Japan. Ms. Fountain was named Assistant Principal to Sigonella Elementary in Italy in 2017. In 2018, Ms. Fountain was named Assistant Principal to AFNORTH Elementary in the Netherlands and Kleine Brogel in Belgium. In 2019, Ms. Fountain was named Acting Principal of AFNORTH Elementary and Kleine Brogel, and in 2020 she was named the Principal of both schools.  During her time with DoDEA, Ms. Fountain has been a leader serving on many committees. Ms. Fountain believes in collaboration between all stakeholders and data-driven instruction for the success of all students.

In her spare time, Ms. Fountain loves to travel the world, spend time with her family, hike, read, keep up with Auburn athletics, practice photography, and listen to Irish music.

Dr. Donald Rush - AFNORTH ES Assistant Principal

Dr. Rush has invested the last 16 years in education, specifically as an elementary educator. At age 19, he began working as a paraprofessional in the Bladen County Schools system in southeastern, North Carolina. He held various positions which included school bus driver, substitute teacher, teacher assistant, and human resources assistant. Dr. Rush’s certified teaching career began in August 2011 at JW McLauchlin in Raeford, NC as a 3rd grade teacher. He was selected as JW McLauchlin Beginning Teacher of the Year 2011-2012. Dr. Rush taught first grade at Dublin Primary School in Dublin, NC where he served on the School Improvement Team, led district professional learning sessions for first grade teachers with Common Core State Standards, and served as a captain for the school’s Relay for Life Team. In addition, Dr. Rush taught English as a Second Language summer school for middle school students. During that time, he was recognized as Bladen Journal’s “Best Teacher” for two consecutive years and named one of the Fayetteville Observer’s 40 Under Forty award recipients for his impact in education and community involvement. 

Dr. Rush has been employed with the Department of Defense Education Activity since August 2014. He taught 1st grade at Johnson Primary School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. as well as 3rd and 4th grade at Shughart Elementary in Fort Bragg, N.C. Dr. Rush has served on the Continuous School Improvement Team, grade-level chair, managed the Teacher Mentorship program for new teachers, facilitated the Math Mania After School Club and implemented a school-wide student recognition program incorporating Sean Covey’s 7 Habits of Happy Kids. During Summer 2019, he collaborated with the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast District Math Instructional Support Specialists to develop the Mathematics Comprehensive Assessment Plan (MCAP) to assess CCRSM End of Unit knowledge. As of the 2020-2021 school year, Dr. Rush is serving as the Assistant Principal of AFNORTH Elementary School in the Netherlands and Kleine Brogel Elementary School in Belgium. 

Dr. Rush holds is a Bachelors and Masters of Arts in Elementary Education both from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, graduate-level certification programs in English as a Second Language (K-12) and School Administration (K-12) from UNC-Wilmington, and an Educational Specialist degree with a specialization in Educational Leadership from Liberty University. Most recently, he completed a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Liberty University. 

Dr. Rush is married and the father of three children. In his spare time, Dr. Rush enjoys conducting genealogical research, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
