As the acting Mid-Atlantic District Superintendent, Mr. Charlie Council will oversee 26 DoDEA schools located on eight installations serving more than 10,000 students.
A proud native of White Oak, North Carolina, Mr. Council earned his Bachelor of Science degree and his Masters of Administration from Pembroke State University. He started his teaching career in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where he taught at Cumberland County Schools, before joining the Department of Defense Education Activity in 1982.
Mr. Council began his DoDEA career as a seventh-grade Science and Language Arts teacher at Irwin Junior High School at Fort Bragg. After holding various teaching positions at Irwin and Albritton Junior High School, he became assistant principal at Albritton in 1994. Following that assignment, Mr. Council was named principal of McNair Elementary School in 1999 and then moved to Murray Elementary School in 2006. In 2011, Mr. Council was appointed the principal of Irwin Intermediate School where he helped plan and facilitate the opening of the replacement building, where Irwin is now located. In 2013, Mr. Council was selected to be the Education Operations Manager for the DoDEA North Carolina District.
Since 2015, Mr. Council has served as the Chief of Staff for the Mid-Atlantic District, which includes DoDEA schools in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Puerto Rico and Cuba.
