AEIS Student Activities

Listed below are the descriptions of the extra-curricular activities that AEIS will be offering this year. Please take the time to review the information with your youngsters and encourage them to expand their interests by joining a club. Parent permission is needed for children to join any activity. The permission slip serves as the child's intent to join a club and is routed to the club sponsor. In cases where enrollment is limited, membership will be based on the order in which the slips are received.

AEIS Firebird Singers

The Firebird Singers is for students who enjoy music to have the chance to sing and perform in a large group setting. Importance in rehearsals will be placed on developing basic singing techniques, part-singing skills, and enhancing their musical knowledge through a variety of choral literature. We'll have concerts throughout the year. The goal is to present music that's challenging but enjoyable to help them become confident and expressive musicians. Maximum 30 students.

Open To: Any student enrolled at AEIS.

Art Club

Art Club is divided into grade level sections and meets until just after Spring Break. Students experiment with a variety of art materials. Students may create artwork to help beautify the school as well as learn art techniques. The projects are chosen by the sponsor. Maximum 24 5th Graders. Maximum 24 3rd and 4th Graders, with priority given to 4th Graders. Parental help is desired. If you would like to help with the club, please indicate on your sign-up form.

Board Game Club

The students will meet and play classic board games and new board games. Think about the time you will have laughing, chatting, and listening to music while we play board games for an hour with your friends. Increase your ability to solve problems, strategize, and develop social skills while playing games. Maximum 24 students

Book Club

Come explore new books, authors, genres, short stories, drama, and other fun reading! Let's read and share books we love! Maximum of 20 students

Chess Club

Students will learn the basics of chess. They will learn the different pieces and how to move them. Basic strategies, rules and etiquette of chess will be taught. Maximum 22 students.

Open To: 4th & 5th Grade

Firebird Drummers Club

In this style of Taiko drumming, the paranku (small handheld) and odaiko (large over-the-shoulder strap held) drums will be used to drum along to choreographed dance steps. It is a unique, Okinawan cultural activity that can be enjoyed by all. The goals of the program will be:

  • To teach the “3 basics” of Taiko---around the head with the bachi, proper leg-lifting, and how to heishi (“call-out”)
  • To learn the choreographed routines to at least four songs and do at least one school performance in May
  • To develop an appreciation for an Okinawan cultural activity

Maximum of 50 students.

Open To: Grades 3-5. New members meet on Thursdays, returning members meet on Mondays.

Firebird Fitness (Girls and Boys - Separate Clubs)

Firebird Fitness is an 8-10 week fitness program aimed to teach children about how to stretch properly prior to exercise, healthy eating habits, positive attitudes, goal setting initiatives, and how to train to walk/run safely. Our fitness program is created to teach kids a fun way to develop an active lifestyle, while promoting healthy habits, positive communication, and building self-esteem. Other fitness activities (if time permits) will include fun healthy games such as 4 square, basketball, and soccer. Maximum of 30 girls and 20 boys.

Firebird Musicians

Come and make music with friends - no experience necessary! Be ready to play, sing, and dance. Let's enjoy learning to express ourselves . . . you might even find yourself writing your own music. Maximum 20 students

Homework Support Club

The purpose of the after-school homework club is to give all students the support they may need to achieve academically in their present school courses. To accomplish this goal, the program provides tutorial assistance, as well as an environment conducive to productive study. Maximum of 20 students.

Sanshin Club

Students will learn how to play the sanshin. This is a traditional Okinawan instrument. The Sanshin Club is under the direction of our Host Nation teacher. Students will perform at AEIS at the end of the school year. Maximum of 18 students.

Service/Character Matters Club

The Service/Character Matters club will be a combination of fun activities designed to reinforce and promote character traits such as RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, CARING, AND CITIZENSHIP. The club will engage in activities and service projects that will benefit our school, our base, and our beautiful island. Maximum 20 students.

Theater Club (2nd Semester)

Lights! Cameras! Action! Join us for another year of theater learning. We will learn about acting, the stage, and nusic as we work to perform a musical at the end of the year. You, the students will choose the show that you want to perform to teach your peers valuable lessons. Who is ready to act? Maximum of 25 students.
