Davis is back as Devilpups' soccer coach

The 58-year-old Davis confirmed Wednesday that he has returned as the Devilpups' coach after two years away from the pitch.

He said he applied for the job in April and was granted the position by Lejeune principal Marc Steimel. 

"I missed it," Davis said. 

Davis coached Lejeune from 2004 to 2009, leading the Devilpups to the NCHSAA 1-A final in Cary in his first season. But after reapplying for his job in 2009 — Lejeune High coaches have to reapply for their positions every year — Davis was not given the position, which ultimately went to Charles Teegarden. 

Davis was also the girls' soccer coach. He said he is uncertain if he will coach that squad.
