Superintendent Message

Welcome from the NY/VA Community Superintendent

Greetings!

On behalf of all those who serve our students across the DoDEA Americas, we welcome you to another school year. We are excited about the many opportunities our students will experience this year in the classroom, during sporting and curricular events, and on study trips. DoDEA's top priority for our students is College and Career Readiness. We are committed to providing a rigorous, rich, and well-rounded educational program. This will enable our students to acquire the knowledge, habits and skills needed to attend college, enter the workforce, or join the military after high school graduation. Our priorities will be to continue the implementation of the DoDEA College and Career Ready Standards, to meet the individual needs of our students, and to support our families.

Every child must have the benefit of quality classroom instruction that prepares them for life in the 21st century. Our school communities maintain a culture of high expectations, maximizing available resources, and meeting the individual needs of all students. As parents, community members, and educators, we share a common goal - success and highest achievement for all students.

The importance of parent-teacher-community partnerships in support of students cannot be overstated. Regular school attendance correlates directly with success in academic work, improves social interaction with adults and peers, and provides a cumulative effect of establishing life-long learning. We ask that you make every attempt to ensure your child attends school each day. Coming to school on time, eating a nutritious breakfast, and getting sufficient rest are simple steps that affect academic success.

Please visit our schools and get involved. Share your suggestions and concerns with your school principal. When students see parents and community members involved in school activities, it strengthens the home-school relationship.

The administrators and teachers at West Point, Quantico, and Dahlgren Schools invite you to join us as we continue to strive toward excellence. It is an honor to serve the children of our community and their families. Together we shape the future of our nation and our world!

Sincerely,

Helen Balilo

West Point School Song - Bulldog March

Master SGT Reifenberg of the West Point Band composed a song  for West Point Schools as part of the Two Centuries of Learning celebrations and presented the score to the schools.  Master SGT Reifenberg's wife teaches at West Point Middle School and his son is a kindergarten student at West Point Elementary School.  He had this to say at the August 19th Kickoff celebration:

"I just wanted to say what an honor and a privilege it was to be asked to write this piece for West Point Schools. Being the husband of a teacher and now as a parent of a student, I fervently believe that strong communities go hand in hand with strong schools. West Point is certainly a standard bearer along those lines. The West Point Band is very proud to support the West Point Community and as a member of the band for the last 11 years, I've been witness to many unique and interesting collaborations with the schools. From our end, none of this would have been possible without the contributions of the Band's Education Outreach Program, the support of the Commander and the Deputy Commander, Colonel Andrew Esch and Captain Darrin Thiriot, and of course the contributions of the West Point Schools' liaison officer, Ms. Michi Carl. Briefly, what you are about to hear is a portion of a much larger piece I wrote entitled the Bulldog March, Celebrating Two Centuries of Learning at West Point Schools. What will come be known as the school's fight song is actually called the TRIO which is frequently the most beautiful and memorable portion of any march. Thank-you very much and I hope you enjoy the West Point Bulldog March."

The West Point Community Schools, located at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, are part of the DoDEA Americas Mid-Atlantic District. The District Superintendent's Office (DSO) is located at Fort Bragg NC and the Community Superintendent is located on Marine Corps Base Quantico.

We are proud of the educational opportunities offered in our community. Our focus is on improving academic achievement for all students while supporting the mission of our military families. The military command, school board and parents provide wonderful community support to us and we feel fortunate to serve the families of our military sponsors.
