PEACHTREE CITY, GA — November 4, 2008 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mrs. Laura Gibson has been named the new Principal for Van Voorhis Elementary School at Fort Knox, in the Kentucky District. She replaces Dr. Jo Blease who was recently named Assistant Superintendent at Fort Campbell for the Kentucky District.

“Mrs. Gibson brings a wealth of experience as a leader in professional development and best practices in teaching and learning to the Van Voorhis community of learners,” said Mr. Todd Curkendall, Fort Knox Community Superintendent. “We are fortunate to have her as a member of our administrative team.”
Gibson previously served as assistant principal of Fort Knox High School, from September 2004 to November 2008, and Van Voorhis Elementary School, from August to September 2004. She began her career with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) at Fort Knox High School in August 2000 as a Social Studies teacher and then as a Guidance Counselor from July 2002 - August 2004. Prior to that time, she taught for 12 years for the State of Kentucky.

Gibson earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science, her master’s degree in School Guidance, and a Rank I in Educational Administration, all from Western Kentucky University.

She and her husband, Gary, have one son, and reside in Elizabethtown, KY.
