ALEXANDRIA, VA — September 19, 2018 — Dr. Christy Huddleston, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Americas Southeast District Superintendent, has selected Mr. Edward Husk as the Southeast District Chief of Staff starting Sept. 17.
He will be located at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he will support the operations of 26 DoDEA schools located across the Southeast District. These locations include Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Fort Rucker, Alabama; Fort Stewart, Georgia; Maxwell Air Base, Alabama; and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina.
Mr. Husk has more than 26 years of educational experience in the Texas teacher system. He was an elementary teacher, an instructional specialist and a principal at all levels to include elementary, middle and high school. He began his educational career at Fort Hood, Texas in 1992 as an elementary teacher and math specialist with Killeen Independent School District (ISD) for nine years. Mr. Husk became a middle school assistant principal with Belton ISD in 2001 and worked in the Fort Hood area at Troy, Moody, and Gatesville ISD schools as a high school principal until 2011. He moved to Abilene, Texas in 2011 where he worked as an elementary principal for Hawley ISD. In 2013 he moved to Conroe, Texas and worked for Cleveland ISD where he received eight stars of distinction from the state testing results over the past five years. Mr. Husk was named principal of the year for Cleveland ISD in 2018.
He also served in the U.S. Army as an enlisted artillery gunner with the 3rd Armored Division. After a tour in Germany, Mr. Husk completed Officer Candidate School, where he was assigned to the Indiana National Guard to fly UH-1 and OH-58 helicopters in utility and scout roles. In 1997, he was mobilized as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Forces to Bosnia Herzegovina as a captain with the 490th of Abilene Texas with U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Mr. Husk has a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University and a Masters in Educational Administration from Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He has six certifications as an elementary teacher, special education teacher, English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, Gifted Education teacher, principal, and superintendent through the Texas Education Association.
He is married to Jane for 22 years. They are proud of their son Earl, and daughter Nicole, son-in-law Lou, as well as proud grandparents of Kaia.
Mr. Husk replaces Dr. Justin Finney as the chief of staff. Dr. Finney is the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services and Technology for Harris County School District in Georgia.
DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade education programs for school-aged children of Department of Defense personnel who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, Western Asia, the Middle East, Cuba, the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Educational Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.
