FORT CAMPBELL — November 22, 2011 — PEACHTREE CITY, GA - Dr. Linda Curtis, Acting Director and Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) learned today that Fort Campbell High School’s (FCHS) Head Football Coach Shawn Berner has been named the 3A District 1 Football Coach of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association.

The 37-year-old Berner has amassed a truly remarkable record during his 10 years as head coach of the FCHS Falcons football team. His overall record is 103 wins and 27 losses. Under his tutelage, the Falcons team has made it to the playoffs each of those 10 years claiming 24 wins and only six losses.

FCHS has signed 50 young men to college football scholarships in the past 10 seasons. “The mark of a complete coach and program is the impact he has had on the lives of the young men he has coached over the years,” said DDESS/DoDDS-Cuba Chief of Staff Steve Hovanic. “His record of helping many young men realize their dreams of attending college and using football as a vehicle to help them get there, is a real tribute to Coach Berner and his staff.”

Berner has successfully led the team to seven district championships, four regional championships and three successive Kentucky State Championships. Berner will lead his Falcons to a State Semifinal game this Friday night at Fryar Stadium on Fort Campbell, against Louisville Central HS. Central is ranked number 1 in the state Class 3A. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
