FORT CAMPBELL, KENTUCKY — February 11, 2022 — Joshua Adams, the Department of Defense Education Activity Kentucky community superintendent, announces Jennifer Atkinson as the new principal for Barkley Elementary School at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Atkinson will assume her duties on March 14.
“Dr. Atkinson is a U.S. Army veteran that brings a decade of experience as an educator,” said Adams. “We welcome her passion for working with the community and fostering an innovative school culture.”
“As a former officer in the 101st Airborne Division, it is an honor to return to Fort Campbell to serve military families,” said Atkinson.
Atkinson is a native of Athens, Texas, and a proud U.S. Army veteran. She joins the Fort Campbell team from DoDEA’s McCool Elementary Middle School in Santa Rita, Guam, where she served as assistant principal. Atkinson joined DoDEA in 2021, following nine years of service as a middle school teacher, athletic coach and assistant principal in Texas.
Atkinson earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology with a minor in psychology from Tarleton State University, a master’s in secondary education from University of North Texas, and her doctorate in educational administration from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Atkinson is passionate about cultivating positive relationships with all school community members, encouraging students as they learn and grow, working with faculty and staff so that they can reach their highest potential, supporting meaningful parent involvement and fostering an innovative school culture.
Atkinson is married to Army Major (Retired) Tim Atkinson, and together they have two children, a daughter-in-law and a future son-in-law. She enjoys traveling, reading, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
