Message from the Superindendent

Good Afternoon Ft. Stewart Community,

We are committed to keeping you informed and will continue to share what we know during the COVID event by providing weekly news/updates. We are moving our weekly updates to each Thursday, beginning next week. This will give parents/students an opportunity to ask questions prior to the weekend. Our schools are standing by and ready to answer your questions and provide additional support as needed.

District News and Updates:

  • Ft. Stewart school buildings will remain closed next week (March 31-April 3). Although the buildings are closed, students will continue participating in school through the digital learning platform. You can access the digital learning platform through your school's website.
  • If your child needs additional support, help with homework, or 1:1 tutorial sessions, please go to www.tutor.com/military. This is a free service provided to military­ connected students and paid for by the Department of Defense and Coast Guard Mutual Assistance. Tutor.com provides individualized, on-demand academic support online 24/7/365 at elementary, middle and high school grade levels.
  • We are taking care of children from 0-18 years by providing meals Monday through Friday through our student meals program. Since Monday, March 23, we have served more than 2,996 meals. For specific information about your local student meals program, visit your local school website and click on Student Meals Program.
  • To focus on continuity of instruction and so that assessments can be focused on providing individual student support, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) has decided to cancel the College and Career Ready Standards (CCRS) Summative Assessments and Alternate Assessments this spring 2020. For more information to include FAQs, visit www.dodea.edu/assessments/.
  • We are continually working with your local command and health officials to ensure we have facts about the ongoing COVID-19 situation and to collaborate on decisions to support the public during the pandemic.
  • If your child needs a laptop to access the digital learning, please contact your school to schedule a pickup time. Currently, we have issued 477 laptops to children who attend DoDEA Ft. Stewart schools.
  • Report cards will be mailed to parents on April 6, 2020.

It is our commitment to provide support services, social virtual interactions between teachers and students, spirit days, and continuity in education. Timely updates will be provided to parents via our website, Facebook and the DoDEA Notification System. Thank you for your support!

We recognize the hardship this decision places on many families, but believe it is in the public's best interest if it means we can contribute to protecting our students as well as the community's health and well-being. 

The following website serves as DoDEA's official source for information on COVID-19, highlighting associated impacts as well as response and prevention efforts. Please continue to visit this website for updates. 

Also, we ask families to continue following the COVID-19/coronavirus guidelines as shared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that are posted on its website. These include monitoring family members' health for flu-like symptoms and reaching out to a local health provider if these symptoms occur. 

Please know that this is a unique situation for DoDEA schools and the nation. We do not yet have all the answers but are committed to communicating with our students and their families as frequently and openly as possible. DoDEA and your community leadership will continue to coordinate closely to ensure accurate and timely information is available and to encourage all appropriate measures to help prevent the spread of the virus.
