The purpose of student council is to: develop leadership skills and to practice good citizenship, promote harmonious relations throughout. Events they are in charge of include Spirit Weeks, Pep Rallies, and Field Day.
Students elected will be asked to purchase a student council t-shirt and provide lunch at least twice during the school year for all council members. They will be expected to participate in all pep rallies, fundraisers, spirit week and field day

Additional Info: Only seniors and juniors are eligible to run for the office of President. All 9-12 graders can run for Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. There are two class representative positions available for each grade.

MathCounts is a program that promotes higher level thinking skills and problem solving for math enrichment and competitions. During our weekly sessions, we discuss challenging problems and various ways that can be used to solve them. The competition season begins in winter at local level, and if successful continues at state level in Germany, dates to be announced.

This club is designed to get students of the same age group actively involved in the sports of the time. Participating in organized sports allows students to develop leadership skills, and to develop and understanding sportsmanship behavior and fair play.

We will be following running programs that are appropriate for age level and fitness level. We will also be doing some conditioning exercises to accompany our running workouts. You are required to wear appropriate running shoes (see me if you are not sure what these are) and you are required to bring water to every meeting. Attendance is not required on all three days. You can choose to some to just one day a week if that is what fits your schedule.

Junior Leadership Seminar is a 6-day event designed to identify and develop leadership skills for use in school. JLS will be held in Oberwesel, Germany.
Student registration: 140 € covers lodging, meals, and material expenses.

The purpose of junior rangers is to foster a love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors through observation, investigation, and exploration.

Additional Info: Students spend as much time outdoors as possible. They may get dirty during planting season. Students sketch, play games, make artifacts using natural materials, and take time to observe and contemplate nature.

The Junior Science & Humanities Symposium is for high school students who have an interest in science. Students will have the opportunity to carry out their own science projects and present them in Germany from March 2-4 in Reistadt. This club is scholastic and students will take 3 science tests and 1 math test

Students are trained to provide leadership in order to support students who are transitioning to or from their school. The team is composed of advisors and students of all grade levels.The focus is student-centered, and is student-led. Students act as sponsors to new students, ambassadors to the school. They are available to answer questions via e-mail before new students arrive, they greet them upon arrival, give personalized tours of the school, answer the many questions new students have about our school and community, host social events for new students and students leaving, and help to give the new students an overall positive experience during their transition to our school.
Meeting Time: As needed throughout the year, before school, during school, and/or after school.
Open To: Grades 6th - 12th who are positive, open minded, friendly, well rounded and posses good leadership, citizenship and service skills who are interested in being ambassadors to our school and community by sponsoring new students who come to Ankara.
Students act as U.N. diplomats to discuss world events. In SY 2014-15, Ankara's team will participate at 4 conferences: at BLIS, Ankara Oct 10-13, TED College Oct 30-Nov 2, and 2 other 4-day events to be announced.

Beginning Band instruments are taught for 1 hour each week with the instruments being loaned to the students for the year. Students learn care of the instruments, making good tones on them, and use note-reading in order to play the music. This is an after-school activity and now course credit is offered. This is offered to students in hopes that they would sign up for beginning band the following year and more quickly continue on their musical journey.

Creative Connections, a six-day Visual and Performing Arts symposium for talented high school students. Instructors include experienced DoDEA teachers and contracted art and music specialists. This year's classes include drama, show choir, strings, dance, music arranging, video production, digital design, drawing, mixed-media and watercolor. The week of intensive instruction challenges students to explore new creative avenues and refine their skills to the highest levels. As one instructor described it, "Creative Connections is a whole semester of Fine Arts packed into one week." The activity culminates with an exhibition of artwork followed by stage performances. The exhibit and show are open to the public.
Registration Fee: 200 € .

This activity brings together students from European and DoDEA high schools to discuss and practice methods associated with leadership skills. ISLI is held at the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler Youth Hostel, in Germany. Organized and run by a Board of Directors composed of German, Dutch, Czech, and American teachers and students. Host nation corporations, European schools, and DoDEA-Europe sponsor this activity.
Student cost: 215 € covers lodging, meals and materials.

The Honors Music Festival offers 60 student instrumentalists and 80 vocalists the opportunity to study and perform a variety of band and choral literature under the batons of two of America's finest conductors. After a period of intensive rehearsals with the guest conductors, the students present an evening concert with a combined band and choral finale. Students apply through their local high school by submitting a recorded audition.
Open To: March 22nd - 27th | Grades 9th - 12th
STEMposium is a weeklong experience in problem-solving and engineering. The event is designed to introduce selected DoDEA-Europe students to a real-world engineering scenario which requires the application of science, technology and math. Content area experts will present information, mentor and provide hands-on, practical experiences targeted at solving a multi-faceted, relevant and dynamic problem. The goal of the STEMposium is to use practicing researchers, scientists and engineers to model Century 21 Skills such as team dynamics, adaptability, problem-solving, complex communications, systems thinking and self-management/self-direction.
Registration Fee: 250 € covering food, lodging, supplies and equipment. Transportation will be provided by DoDEA.
