There are many reasons to be physically active. We all know regular exercise can reduce the odds of developing future health problems like obesity, heart disease, and high blood pressure. But another benefit of regular exercise includes making our brains more powerful! Our Running Club will meet on Mondays from 3-4 p.m. in Room 238. Runners will learn about the fundamentals of running, play games, and go out for long runs. Parents are welcome to join us as we loop around Bechtel ES, building our stamina and endurance. Please make sure runners wear appropriate running attire, sun protection, and water. This club is open to accepting up to 25 runners in Grades 2-5.

Choir club will be held for 60 students in the 3rd, 4th or 5th grade who are excited about singing, dancing and performing! Younger students who would like to join choir must set up an audition with Mrs. Nakamura prior to signing up for the club.
The choir club will perform at many school and community events throughout the school year. Our first performances will be in December during the holiday season. Choir members will be performing various holiday songs and traditional Christmas carols for these performances. Come on and join the fun!

Students will have the opportunity to further their acting and literary knowledge and talent via a theatrical performance. Students will be broken down into three groups and tasked with writing their own 5-minue interactive, child friendly, renaissance themed play to present during the Everything Renaissance Fair. The Fair will be open to all students and family members.
Students will be asked to create a costume for their play that is consistent with their role.

Hand bell club is accepting 15 students who are excited about learning to read music, play hand bells and perform on stage! The club will perform at events both at school and off base. Hand bell members will be learning a variety of songs this year including traditional Christmas carols to perform at our holiday program in December.

Students will have the opportunity to learn Japanese Hiragana. Reading and writing of Hiragana will be introduced to students. This club will be a great chance to gain exposure to Japanese culture.

The Soroban Training Club will teach students how to use a Japanese Soroban. Students who develop their Soroban skills during the first semester can participate in the DoDEA Soroban Competition held in March. It also gives students a great opportunity to learn advanced math skills.

Student Innovators are a group of students that will be part of the Continuous School Improvement process. Students will be involved in the decision making process. Also, students will represent their peers for events at Bechtel ES. Students who express interest will be placed on a list and a boy and girl from each class will be selected by their peers.

BES Dance Fitness Club is a program that will incorporate basic dance steps, hip hop, salsa, merengue, etc. This activity will introduce dancing as aform of exercise that will improve students muscle strength, hands and feet coordination, improve joint flexibility and endurance. It will also boost their self-esteem as well as build their self-confidence.

Homework Club is a program that offers students an environment where they can come to do their homework and receive support whether in a group or individualized setting, while also providing the added support and instruction some need in order to better comprehend the material being taught in their classes. Helping students to achieve their potential is the main purpose of this club, while also working in a manner that helps students gain more confidence, which invariably leads to a greater understanding and improved grades alike.

Honor Guard will be offered for 4th and 5th grade students. We will be accepting 15 students who walk to and from school every day and are upstanding role models to their peers. The primary duties will be raising and lowering the flag each morning and ensuring safety around the school grounds before and after the school day. Students must arrive to school by 8:20 a.m. to raise the flag and to stand post at their safety spots. There will be a quarterly meeting to learn about safety and flag procedures.

Art Master Class is a club that will give students who want more art instruction a chance to explore advanced art-making techniques. The goal of the club is to prepare students who want to take art as an elective in middle school, or even to pursue art projects on their own. The club will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, though attendance on both days is not required. Members must attend at least once per week. Students will be expected to keep a sketchbook, and practice at home.
