Clubs & Activities

After school clubs and activities will normally meet only on days that the school follows a full day schedule, NOT on early release days. There is no extra-curricular activity bus for students who participate in these activities. Parents whose child frequently rides a bus must make transportation and/or other arrangements for the student to be picked up from school following the activity. Notification of these activities will be sent to the parent along with the day and time of the activity. In addition, due to unforeseen training, meetings, or teacher absences, an activity may be canceled without advanced notice. The sponsoring teacher will endeavor to notify students and parents of the canceled activity if time permits. If the activity is canceled at the last minute, students will be notified through the school intercom system at the end of the instructional day.

Sponsors of clubs and extracurricular activities determine academic and behavioral (disciplinary) requirements that students must meet to participate in school sponsored extracurricular activities or to hold a leadership position in a curriculum-related club, team or student organization.

Band & Chorus

Bolden Elementary/Middle School students are provided with the opportunity to join the school band and chorus. The band and chorus is offered as an extension to the general music program. Rehearsals for both of these groups are held before and after school. Band is only offered to fifth through eighth grade students, and chorus is offered to all students. These two groups perform twice during the school year.

Junior Leadership

Junior Leadership is a program for students in grades 3-5. Students are recommended by their teachers based on their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Leadership students show good character and are responsible and dependable.

Service projects include:

  • placing/removing flags at the Beaufort National Cemetery for Memorial Day
  • various clean up activities
  • making cards at holiday time for nursing homes
  • supporting deployed military
  • conducting an annual canned food and toy drive
  • assisting the PTO with fund raisers
  • weekly paper recycling.

Junior leadership students work together to host a celebration for our school volunteers each year. Our students are always up for new challenges and ways to contribute to their community. For more information on where and when these activities meet, please contact your child's teacher or the main office.

LEGO League

LEGO League is open to students in grades 6-8. The students will participate in at least one of the Lego League Robotics Competitions. Team members must make all decisions and do all the work on the Robot Game and Project. This includes deciding on strategy, building, programming, researching, choosing a problem and innovative solution, and presenting at a tournament.

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)

The National Junior Honor Society is an organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and character. Bolden NJHS not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Picasso Art Club

The BEMS Picasso Art Club is open to students in grades 6-8. Activities include:

  • Creating artwork for school projects and beautification
  • Exploring many concepts and work with a range of media including paint, crayons, colored pencils, clay, and drawing tools.
  • Become familiar with influential artists to better understand stylistic choices and the history behind the discipline of art.
  • Learn, have fun, use team work, and grow as learners and artists collaboratively.

Sign Language Club

The Sign Language Club is an after school club that helps students learn sign language interpretation. Students learn a song in sign language and then perform the song as part of the winter and spring programs along with the band and the chorus.

Student Council

Student Council is for students in grades 6-8. The mission of Student Council at Bolden Middle School is to provide an opportunity for leadership among the students and actively encourage the student body to participate in programs developed for the school and the community. STUDENT leaders, given the serious responsibility of being the voice of their peers, must hone their leadership qualities in order to bring about positive changes, and serve as a positive role model whom other students can emulate. Interested students in grades 6-8 can fill out an application for membership.
