Department of Defense Education Activity

Dear Bowley Parents and Community,

We are back to that exciting time of the year when students get prepared to join their classmates and get back into the swing of things at Bowley Elementary. Our faculty and staff are busy preparing classrooms by creating a safe and caring environment that is inviting yet structured to maintain standards for optimal student learning.

We are opening this school year with an attitude of gratitude, understanding that the challenges that we are currently facing are real, they are urgent, and they are unpredictable. Therefore, Bowley Elementary will do what we do best…we TEACH! And what does that mean? We will not only provide a world class education to every student, every day, but we will also Take Every Action Carefully to Heart! Every decision from classroom assignments, to alternate learning locations for mask breaks, to mandatory sign-in by any staff member who visit classrooms for any reason, is analyzed and implemented with the intention to ensure that our children’s safety is at the core of what we do. That is precisely why our partnership with our parents and stakeholders is paramount. We cannot do this without you!

This year, our classroom teacher assignments will be emailed to parents on Monday, August 16th. Please make certain that you check your email after 4 p.m. on that day. Additionally, Ms. Leeks will hold a Facebook Live session on Thursday, August 12th at 5 p.m. to answer questions for parents regarding the beginning of the year activities for parents and students. Open House will be held virtually on Friday, August 20th from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Homeroom teachers will be sending out links to the Open House presentation to parents on Thursday, August 19th via email. Kindergarten and Pre-K parents will be able to have a longer orientation with teachers during scheduled one on one meetings prior to reporting to school. The first day of school for students in grades 1-5 is Monday, August 23rd. On Monday, Kindergarten parents will have orientation with their child’s teacher. Kindergarten students will report to school on Tuesday, August 24th. Pre-K parents will have virtual visits with their child’s teacher in lieu of the traditional home visits. Links will be provided by the homeroom teacher. Pre-K students will report to school on Tuesday, September 7th.

Due to installation guidelines, we are unable to allow parents to enter the building with students. Our staff has been trained on how to safely identify and assemble students to get them situated for day one activities. We are asking parents to be patient during the first few days of school as we are monitoring and adjusting our practices as different situations arise regarding our COVID Operational Guidelines from our Headquarters.

We know that limiting parent access to the building on the first day is going to be difficult for many parents as you miss those precious “first time” moments with your kids. We encourage our families to subscribe to our Bowley Facebook page as well as Classroom Dojo so that we can help capture those moments (with your permission) and share them with you as they happen. Again, we Take Every Action Carefully to Heart because we are grateful for your children!

Finally, we want to thank you for all that you do everyday to serve and protect our nation. Moreover, we thank you for entrusting us with your most prized possession. We look forward to a sensational year at Bowley Elementary School where we educate and enrich the children of our nation’s heroes to become successful lifelong learners!

Sincerely,

Latonya L. Leeks
