Architect rendition of Crossroads Elementary at Quantico Virginia

Background Information: Crossroads Elementary School (CES), opened in April 2015, as a 21st Century facility. It is designed to serve approximately 700 students in grades PK-5 and consolidated the three existing elementary schools on Quantico Marine Corps Base. The school has 10 education neighborhoods, each consisting of four learning studios that surround a shared learning hub, a staff collaboration area, group and one-to-one learning areas, a kitchen/discovery area, student restrooms, and teacher storage space.

This 21st Century school features central Common areas with a Performance Stage, Dining area, Information Center with adjacent Flex Lab, Art room, Music room, Gymnasium and an Auxiliary Gym which comprise a majority of the 1st floor. Crossroads also has a state-of-the-art, full-service kitchen with dual serving lines. Additionally, CES has an Administration Suite, Counseling Suite, and a large Health Clinic with multiple beds and waiting area.

At Crossroads, the instructional focus is Project Based Learning and the staff receives ongoing staff development training on the 21st Century Teaching and Learning Skills and Project Based Learning. Crossroads is also implementing Balanced Literacy and Balanced Math programs in all grades.

There is be 37 classroom teachers and numerous support teachers under the leadership of Tracey Fairfax, Principal. As a school in the AM-Mid-Atlantic District district, we are fortunate to have the support of Mr. Kent Worford, District Superintendent and Helen Balilo, Community Superintendent, respectively.
