SEC132: Focus Community Exper M 2hr (2020)

The Focus Community Experience (year-long) course for students in Grades 9-12 with disabilities. The course is designed to assist the student in acquiring and generalizing life-skills that are necessary for post-secondary life (i.e., shopping, home living activities) and enhances the quality of life, and relationships within the general community. Instruction occurs in natural environments (i.e., restaurant) and during regular school day events (i.e., recess, large group specialist class).It engages students to explore the community and experience life situations, including possible employment based on their individual educational needs, aptitudes, and interests. Students are provided the opportunity to experience real life situations so as to enter post-secondary life with an awareness of employability, self-advocacy, life and management skills.

Course Note: This course is for two hour periods.
