Mr. Tim Proskauer
Ramey Aguadilla, Puerto Rico | November 16, 2018
On November 2nd and November 9th while many Ramey students were enjoying a well-earned “sleeping in” during days off from school, the high school Math Team was up early. Ramey’s mathletes boarded buses before 6 am to travel to San Juan and represent the Bombers. There efforts were rewarded with excellent finishes in both competitions.
The November 2nd event, hosted by Colegio Espiritu Santo is considered as the largest and most challenging 9-12 competition of the year. It involved 52 schools and some of the hardest trigonometry and logarithm problems. The Ramey team met the challenge head-on. They put themselves in fifth position heading into the final problem. With a clutch effort they correctly answered #10 and vaulted into fourth place for their highest finish on record.
The following week they traveled to Colegio San Ignacio for a competition of only 9th and 10th grade students. After the first 5 problems it was a two-school race. Ramey kept pace point for point with a powerful team from TASIS Dorado. Although they briefly took the lead after problem nine, they eventually finished 3 points behind for a second place finish out of 18 schools.
Congrats to our Ramey Mathletes for an excellent start to the season.
