Jordan Soles, a senior Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) cadet at Spangdahlem High School has received a scholarship to attend one of six partnering universities participating in a pilot training program over the summer of 2018. He is one of 120 AFJROTC cadets to receive the scholarship from Headquarters AFJROTC, Maxwell Air Force Base, Montgomery, Alabama from among more than 700 applicants.

The scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics and flight hours required to potentially earn a pilot’s license. The scholarship is valued at approximately $20,000.

The Flight Academy Scholarship Program is a new Air Force-level initiative in collaboration with the commercial aviation industry to address the national civilian and military pilot shortage.

During his four years in Air Force and Army JROTC programs, Jordan has proven himself to be a diligent, hard-working and a highly motivated individual. He displays these attributes in JROTC, in Spangdahlem High School (SpHS), and in our community. Jordan was selected as the Cadet Group Commander of our program, the unit’s highest leadership position.  Additionally, he served as Squadron Commander in the European Cadet Leadership Camp, where he earned the Outstanding Squadron Commander Award.  Jordan received national awards including the Air Force Association Award, the Military Order of the World Wars Medal, and numerous JROTC distinctions including Outstanding Cadet, Outstanding Organization, and Leadership awards.

Jordan embodies his Eagle Scout values and demonstrates these positive characteristics daily.  His performance earned him acclaim, including the Principal's Service Award.  He serves as Student Council Vice President, has lettered in Baseball and Cross-Country, and also served as the Team Captain of Cross-Country. Jordan has accumulated over 115 hours of community service.

Jordan is an excellent leader and mentor in the Spangdahlem Community.  His distinctive citizenship and accomplishments reflect an individual who is passionate about the needs of our community and our country's founding principles.

We join his family, Lt Col Jimmy Soles; Lt Col (ret) Jennifer Soles, and Jasmin Soles in celebrating this great achievement!
