It was a ‘Wild’ evening for the students and families of Elliott Elementary School as they participated in a variety of family-oriented activities at the school’s monthly family night. Attendees listened to a reading of Maurice Sendak’s “Where the Wild Things Are” and then created a “Wild Thing” puppet to assist in retelling the story at home. “Monster Math Snacks” were also made, which involved students planning addition equations on Monster Math mats and using pretzels and a cookie to construct a monster showing the addition sentence with “crazy pretzel hair”. Plenty of family fun occurred during “Back to School BINGO” as well as in the STEM-focused “Challenge Station” in which students had a chance to think like an engineer by problem solving different ways to complete tasks, such as cup stacking. Students and their families agreed that it was a wild night worth remembering!
