San Juan Puerto Rico | December 1, 2017
On Friday December 1st, Ramey School AVID middle and high school students attended a study trip that provided an opportunity to gain college related exposure and experience. The AVID program is a strong college and career readiness program to prepare students for success at the next level. The acronym represents Advancement via Individual Determination.
The activity involved students traveling to San Juan to experience a campus visit at Universidad Politechnica (PUPR), www.pupr.edu. This university specializes in many technical fields such as engineering, aviation and the bio-medical industry. Ramey was greeted by a university admissions guide and was immediately provided with an orientation to the university. As part of the orientation, students also received a PUPR folder containing information about the university. The next step included a guided tour of the campus. Ramey students were exposed to high tech animated computer labs, engineering testing facilities, a high definition cadaver touch screen and numerous stations in a chemistry lab. In all settings, AVID students were able to see the university students and professors engaged in their curriculum and were able to ask questions about the particular field of study.
The Ramey School AVID program actively seeks new students through a recruiting process conducted each spring. To learn more about AVID, please visit www.avid.org
