On January 30, the Performing Arts Students in Choir, Advanced Band, and Drama attended the final dress rehearsal of Anton Dvorak's opera, Rusalka, at the Metropolitan Opera in Lincoln Center, New York City. 108 students, parents and chaperones attended the performance at the elegant theater. This is the second year that West Point Middle School has participated in the educational outreach service of the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Similar in plot to "The Little Mermaid," Rusalka takes place between the mystical blue world of water sprites and the brightly colored palace of a prince.During the first intermission the students, parents, and teachers picnicked on the plush red carpets of the Met's foyers beneath crystal chandeliers.During the second intermission everyone participated in a special scavenger hunt. The general feeling was that this was
a great study trip. "I thought it was very cool," said seventh grader, Georgia S. "I hope I get to see opera again."
