SEMBACH, Germany - June 15, 2016 - DoDEA Europe is pleased to announce the selections for the male and female DoDEA-Europe Student Athletes of the Year.
The Male Student Athlete of the Year is Eli Spencer, a senior at Stuttgart High School. Eli participated in football, wrestling and soccer where he led both his football and wrestling teams to European Championships. Eli was a standout on the Panther football team, earning Defensive MVP honors during the championship game in addition to his selection to the Division I All-Conference Team and 1st Team All Europe. During the wrestling season, Eli continued to have great success. Pinning all of his opponents, he won the 195-pound weight class and subsequently was named the Stars and Stripes Wrestler of the Year. Eli was able to attend the National Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, VA, where he placed 4th in the 182-pound weight class, earning the honor of being named an "All-American". Eli closed out his senior year participating on the soccer team where he continued to demonstrate a key role on that team.
The 2016 Female Student Athlete of the Year is Elise Rasmussen, currently a junior at Bitburg High School. Elise was a dominant player in her teams' successes this year leading her volleyball, basketball and track teams to 2nd place finishes at the European Championships. In both volleyball and basketball, Elise was selected for All-Region, All-Tournament and 1st Team All-Europe.
Elise completed the year, dominating the discus and shot events at the European Championships. Elise won gold medals in both events, earning her 1st Team All Europe honors.
