Department of Defense commemorates Constitution Day and Citizenship Day and Constitution Week The Department of Defense (DOD) will commemorate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (CDCD) on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 and Constitution Week (CW) from Sept. 17-23, 2018.
CDCD and CW are designated time periods that allow personnel to reflect on the efforts and sacrifices of our Founders as they established this country based on the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. These documents have lasted the test of time and continue to serve as the foundation of our country.
This year, the DOD website highlights the Department of Defense Education Activity; Defense Privacy, Civil Liberties, and Transparency Division; and U.S. Navy website that provide additional resources and highlight CDCD and CW commemorative events.
Visit the DOD website for a suite of online educational and training materials on the U.S. Constitution and Citizenship as well as promotional materials. The DOD CDCD website also hosts an interactive, short course about the Constitution where you can “Test Your Constitutional Knowledge” or play “You be the Judge Game” and earn certificates. The course is designed to provide interesting and educational information about the events leading up to the creation of the Constitution by the founding fathers and the evolution of this document through the 19th and 20th centuries.
Visitors to the website can watch a speech given by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Conner, and have access to government-wide resources that include iCivics, which is a center for educational civics material.
