Elliott Elementary School families gathered on February 8th for an early evening full of activities supporting nutrition, dental health and our English Language Arts and Math standards. The PTO arranged for families to pre-order pizzas so families could eat at the event or take their pizzas home at the end of the evening. Staff members set up a “My Plate” station where students and parents planned and created a nutritious meal based on the healthy food groups on their “My Plate” templates. There was also a “Valentine Sight Word Match Game” that students played as well as made their own to take home. Stations with math activities designed in conjunction with Dental Health Month supported number recognition skills and the operations. Our school counselor, Ms. Griffing, had a special Kelso station where families learned about the choices we can all make when we face conflicts. In the media center, Ms. Warner and Ms. Tidwell presented a slide show informing and explaining the upcoming visit by AdvancEd and the accreditation process. Rounding out the night was the PTO Book Sale where families purchased books to add to their family libraries. The PTO ended the evening with door prizes given out to a student from each grade level.
