Math Team Gearing up for Math Season!
March is “Math Season” for the Ramey Math Team, as it sees the team members heading out on the road to compete around the island. It all kicked off on Saturday, February 24th as the middle school MATHCOUNTS team boarded a bus at 5:30 am to travel to San Juan for the MATHCOUNTS SW Chapter Competition. The Ramey Mathletes made a strong showing, finishing third in their region and improving on their scores from the practice competition. Only a hiccup in the Team Round kept them from second place. The team is composed of 8th graders Bria Roettger (captain), Elkin Vargas, Janeliz Guzman, Kailey Aponte, Wyatt Anderson, and Dan Ellsworth. In the Chapter Competition Kailey really shined brightly, capturing third place in the region and 11th in the state with a personal best score of 26. She earned her way onto the stage for the Countdown Round, finishing 8th. The middle school team is now gearing up for the State Competition on March 24th.
The high school Math team is scheduled to compete on March 2nd at Colegio Espiritu Santo. This competition includes over 50 schools and is considered the most prestigious event of the year. Ramey will be represented by 12th grader Carmen Andrade (math team co-president), 11th grader Paulo Martinez and 9th grader Nico Proskauer (co-captains). The following Friday, March 9, they be joined by 12th grader Rob Overstreet as they travel to Carib Christian School to compete in a 4-person Invitational. Good luck to all the Ramey Mathletes!
