Middle School Students Present To School Board
AVID and Creative Thinking Classes Collaborate
On Wednesday December 12, 2018, Ramey School AVID and Creative Thinking students were invited to present their programs to our local school board. Several DoDEA – Puerto Rico professionals were in attendance, including Community Superintendent Dr. Sherwood, Principal Mr. Strait, and parent representatives Mr. Pinto from Fort Buchanan and Mr. Brannan from Ramey.
The AVID program is a strong college and career readiness program designed to prepare students for success beyond high school. The acronym represents Advancement via Individual Determination. Additionally, the Creative Thinking and Research Project Program is designed to develop students' higher level thinking, problem solving, and research skills. Courses provide challenging critical and creative problem solving opportunities that encourage students to make connections across disciplines through problem-based learning activities and competitions.
The purpose of the presentation was to educate and inform our school board about the wonderful programs that are actively functioning here at Ramey School. Student presenters were very well poised as they articulated the power of critical thinking, teamwork and college and career preparation for the 21st century.
