Vogelweh Elementary School held an Oral Reading Festival on May 15, 2017. Students from the 5th grade classes had practiced, held classroom contests, and sent 3 participants from each class to the school festival. While there is no district competition this year, the school wanted to continue the tradition of holding the festival.
Students from each class chose books that they enjoy reading. They then chose specific passages from the books. These brave 12 students gave their books life, as they read the passages for the audience. The orations were judged and three of the twelve students were awarded trophies for their outstanding abilities. All twelve participants were given books from our fantastic PTSA.
The oratory abilities of the students were not only presented to the 5th grade classes, parents, administration and faculty but were also watched by the fourth grade classes. Fourth grade, we challenge you to try to do as good a job as these fine students next year when it's your turn. We know you are up to the challenge.
A huge thank you goes out to Ms. Wedlaw who was the POC for the event, the administration for allowing the event to take place, the fifth grade teachers and students for their time and efforts, and of course the staff/faculty that volunteered to judge, time, and score. Great Job! Enjoy some highlights from the event:
