March 14, 2018, marks the one month anniversary of the shooting in Marjory Stoneman High School in Parkland, Florida. The Women’s March Youth Empower organization held a National School Walkout in which more than 3,000 schools, including Antilles High walked out for 17 minutes in commemoration of the tragedy in which 17 people were killed in the shooting. This walkout was held to protest Congress’ refusal to take action on gun violence in schools and in neighborhoods. With this walkout we urge action on behalf of the United States Congress to pass legislation that keeps us safe from gun violence. In our government/civics class we have explored the Second Amendment and its implications. Due to our discussions of gun laws, we decided to join this walkout in solidarity of the victims of this shooting.
