C. C. Pinckney Elementary School
Fort Jackson | February 28, 2019

The Fort Jackson Reading Prize Patrol began in the Spring of 2014 and is DoDEA's ORGINIAL Prize Patrol Installation!  The concept is based on that of Publisher’s Clearing House.  Fort Jackson families are invited to sign a reading pledge and send it back to the school for a chance to win a visit from the Reading Prize Patrol.  The event is ALWAYS held the week of NEA Read Across America!  Students and families do not know IF they are winners until the Reading Prize Patrol (made up of faculty and staff) knocks on their door!

The stakeholders of Fort Jackson Elementary School stand firmly committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students’ future academic success, their preparation for America’s jobs of the future, and their ability to compete in a global economy. Events like the Reading Prize Patrol highlights the fact that reading is not just another subject to be learned in school but is a skill that is required by all. By having teachers leave the school and take the message of reading to the home, with a family celebration, we are helping to foster generalization and the importance of reading.  Also, what student doesn't LOVE to see their teacher at their home?  Fort Jackson schools School want to be present in the community.  School and community partnerships are vital to student academic success!
