On January 30th Ramey School hosted over 100 guests for the 3rd Annual West Coast Invitational Math Competition. Eleven schools from all over the island sent delegations to Aguadilla to compete in two categories: middle school MATHCOUNTS and high school Math Bowl. They were welcomed by the Ramey elementary math team members, who served as hosts for the event. Guests enjoyed breakfast and lunch served by the math team parents in Ramey’s open-air courtyard, and appreciated musical performances by Jinnielys Santiago (anthems) and Nivek Rodriguez (lunchtime performance).
When it came down to the competitions, Ramey was well-represented. The Ramey middle school team won first place from nine schools. The winning team was composed of 8th grader Adriel de la Rosa, 7th graders Ariadna Rodriguez and Leonardo Mimbela, and 6th grader Abner Cardona. In the individual competition Abner was the overall winner out of 36 students. In the High School division Ramey captured the 4th place trophy out of 13 schools. The other winners were Colegio del Espiritu Santo (1st), TASIS Dorado (2nd), and Inter San German (3rd). The Ramey high school team consists of Paulo Martinez (12th), Delianne Ayala and Johnny Rodriguez (11th), Nico Proskauer (10th), and Kailey Aponte, Bria Roettger, Janeliz Guzman, Wyatt Anderson, and Emely Arredondo (9th).
