On Wednesday, April 13th, and Thursday, April 14th, the Economics, Marketing & Entrepreneurship, and Business / Personal Finance classes of Kubasaki High School visited the Camp Foster Commissary (DECA) for specific tours related to their areas of focus. Economics addressed supply chains, distribution, and unit pricing. Marketing focused on grocery store marketing to consumers, loyalty programs, store layout, and seasonal/event marketing campaigns. Business / Personal Finance had a $100 budget and a shopping list. They became “consumers” making choices about the private label (generic) vs. brand name to stay within their budget (3 separate lists of items were given to students). The DECA managers, Mr. Thompson and Ms. Bottjen tailored their tours and information to each class and provided commissary snack bags to each student. The students toured behind the scenes and were able to ask questions and then complete the specific lesson provided. Students completed presentations based on their notes and pictures (of items) the following class day.
