Quantico | October 30, 2018
On October 25th AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) students at Quantico Middle High School received a special gift from the Fredericksburg (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi. The students were presented T-shirts by the fraternity that carry the slogan: Discover, Engage, and Succeed. Lorenzo C. Reid, Vice Polemarch for the organization and a former Marine himself, commented: “It was truly our pleasure and an honor to be able to sponsor and donate the T-shirts as a small token of gratitude towards the achievements of these special and amazing kids.”
Polemarch Vincent C. Allen (also a prior Marine), along with other representatives from the society, presented the T-shirts to the students during a special ceremony with Principal Michael A. Johnson in attendance. The organization was presented a certificate of appreciation by the school, thanking them for their contribution. Assistant Principal Carricia Simpson wanted the students to represent QMHS as ambassadors with a common uniform. Tammie Honore-Reaux (AVID high school teacher) served as the liaison between the organization and the AVID program, coordinating the funding, ordering and securing, of the T-shirts.
The students will wear their T-shirts at three very important events: college visits to George Mason University on October 29, to Howard University on November 29, and during the College and Career Readiness Night on November 7th, serving as guides for visitors/guests. AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. If you would like more information about the AVID program, or to see if your student qualifies for admission, please contact the school for additional information.
