C. C. Pinckney Elementary School
Fort Jackson | February 5, 2019

Remember anticipating P.E. class or recess because you could get away from your desk and move around? Now, imagine a way to capture this energy and use it to teach S.T.E.M. concepts.  Fort Jackson schools did just that when it hosted S.T.E.M. in the GYM, February 5, 2019.

What is S.T.E.M.?

S.T.E.M. is a movement to develop the deep mathematical and scientific concepts students need to be competitive in the 21st-century workforce. S.T.E.M. develops a set of thinking, reasoning, teamwork, investigative, and creative skills that students can use in all areas of their lives.

The acronym stands for:

Science: The study of the natural world.

Technology: The STEM definition for technology includes any product made by humans to meet a want or need. (Not all technology is digital!)

Engineering: The design process kids use to solve problems.

Math: The language of numbers, shapes, and quantities.

Fort Jackson School’s S.T.E.M. in the GYM focused on real-world issues and problems.   Not only did Fort Jackson Schools provide hands -on -activities for students, they also implored the knowledge of Fort Jackson’s health and fitness community to serve as research stations and raise awareness about the importance of health, fitness and science.

Community Partnerships included: Moncrieff nutritionist, Fort Jackson MWR, Fort Jackson EDIS, Fort Jackson Child and Youth Services, Fort Jackson DARE Program, Fort Jackson Master Fitness School, Fort Jackson Crossfit,  C. C. Pinckney Elementary School PTO and the Fort Jackson LEADER newspaper.

Another community partnership event, at its finest!
