This year (2017) will be the 20th Annual Virginia Tech Honor Band. Top-notch band students are recommended by their band directors and then chosen by the University. Approximately 400 students will be chosen from five different states surrounding Virginia. Once there, they will audition to be placed in one of four bands. They will rehearse on Jan. 20 and 21 with a guest conductor, usually from Virginia Tech, and other band students of their same caliber, learning brand new pieces of band literature. On Sunday, Jan. 22, the four bands will have a culminating concert, performing the pieces they have learned. It is AMAZING!! Also, while they are there, students will go to Master Classes for their instrument and attend a concert performed by the many bands of VA Tech. It is a wonderful opportunity for our kids!!
