Reading has definitely gone to the dogs, but in the best possible way! Gordon Elementary School kindergarten and first grade students learned about working and therapy pets during an assembly that introduced Love on a Leash volunteers and their dogs to students. In support of the reading program, the dogs and their owners visit the school throughout the year. During these visits, students read to the therapy dogs. Information specialist and Gordon Elementary School’s librarian Pamela Bailey said students who have participated in the program, feel that it’s fun and exciting. “What better way to gain confidence in reading than curling up with a good book and a comforting and cuddly companion.” Love on a Leash is a nonprofit organization that brings comfort, happiness and healing to people nationwide by providing public awareness of pet-provided therapy.
