Ramey Math Team Hosts Massachusetts Institute of Technology
On September 5, 2018, students from all over the western region of Puerto Rico converged on Ramey School to participate in a pre-college presentation from one of the world’s top universities: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT boasts one of the most rigorous set of entrance requirements in the nation and has been recognized as one of the top five universities in the world every year for the last 8 years. Ms. Tiffany Velez, Assistant Director of Admissions, spoke for about an hour to prospective students from grade seven up to seniors. College visits are part of the DoDEA College and Career Readiness initiative designed to raise students’ awareness of the demands of college, the admissions process, and the steps needed to prepare for college. The event was co-sponsored by the Ramey Guidance Department and the Ramey Math Team, who served as hosts for the evening. The team, composed of students from grades 5-12 who share a common passion for mathematics, served as greeters, helped with logistics, and served food to the attendees.
