Dr. Hollie Becker is thrilled to be joining the DoDEA Europe East team. She brings with her a wealth of experience in Pre-K-12 and postsecondary education that spans 20 years. Most recently, she served as Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for the past six years at the Lansing School District in Kansas. Previously she served as an elementary principal, a high school assistant principal, K-12 curriculum coordinator, and Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services in both Kansas and California in urban, suburban and rural districts. She began her education career as a high school classroom teacher- teaching Drama, Debate, Forensics, Social Studies, Speech, Stagecraft, English, and even a year of Spanish. She coached Debate, Forensics and the Dance Team, directed and designed 4 shows a year, and sponsored the Thespians. She has also spent over ten years as an adjunct for the University of Saint Mary in their education and psychology departments (graduate and undergraduate), and now serves on their Educational Advisory Committee (EAC). In addition, she’s taught School Law for Baker University's Master’s in Building Leadership program and serves on the Park University Education Advisory Committee in Parkville, Missouri.
Dr. Becker is a 2008 graduate of Baker University (Baldwin City, Kansas), earning a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. She also holds two Masters degrees from the University of Saint Mary (Leavenworth, Kansas)- one in Counseling Psychology and one in Education. She graduated with Honors while earning her three BAs from Saint Mary- in theatre, in History, and she returned later for a BA in English. She minored in Applied Music: Vocal Performance, Spanish, and Secondary Education. She was thankful to serve as Student Body President while an undergraduate, and as the theatre graduate assistant while a graduate student.
Dr. Becker was named the Kansas 2020 Outstanding Curriculum Leader of the Year, a statewide award that honors an educator with at least 8 years of curriculum leadership for outstanding leadership in curriculum and supervision of instruction. She was also honored to be a nominee in October 2019 for the national “AASA (American Association of School Administrators) Women in Leadership” award (Central Office category). While in her student teaching she was named a Kansas statewide “Teacher of Promise.”
In addition to her professional activities, Dr. Becker is a passionate advocate for the performing arts. She was a director for Gladstone Theatre in the Park and has directed children’s community theatre and run summer theatre camp for K-6 students. Between performing, directing and designing, Dr. Becker has been involved in over 50 theatre productions- her favorite roles being the evil Queen in Snow White and Aunt Sponge in James and the Giant Peach because she was able to share the stage with both of her daughters.
Dr. Becker is happily married to her husband Michael. Together they have two daughters, Golda and Viola (6th and 4th grade), and three cute cats- Mr. Whiskers, Vincent Van Gogh, and Coco Marie. In her free time Dr. Becker enjoys sewing, knitting, spending time with her family, and traveling. Her life goals are to learn 7 languages and to write a book.
