The safety and security of students and school employees are our school’s most important responsibilities. In many public schools today, parents can receive messages from school leadership during an emergency event, or for changes to daily school operations (such as weather related changes), or for other important information, quickly and conveniently through a messaging system.
DoDEA is essentially replacing existing or establishing a new emergency notification system throughout DoDEA. The DoDEA Emergency Alert Notification System will ensure our school’s ability to communicate to you using email, voice, and text messaging.
The DoDEA Emergency Alert Notification System establishes a very important
communications capability for our community and I highly encourage you to ensure your contact information is current so you can fully benefit from this new capability. Our successful use of the system largely depends on having current contact information for our parents and employees; therefore, I ask that if you are unsure whether the contact information you provided at the start of the school year is still current (in terms of phone numbers and email addresses) please visit our front office or call (706) 545-0310 or email Gloria.Gerena@am.dodea.edu to review and update yourcontact information. I ask that you do so by January 19, 2018. Please note that if you do not want to receive messages you may elect to ‘opt out’ of our new alert notification system, please inform us ofthis preference.
In late January 2018, we will begin testing the system to ensure parents are able to receive messages (via phone, email, text messages). I will provide guidance to you before we perform these system tests.
The DoDEA Emergency Alert Notification System commercial name is “AtHoc.” This system is currently the crisis communication “system of choice” of many Federal agencies to include a number of DoD agencies and secretariats. For more information concerning the system (to include a demonstration), please go to www.athoc.com.
It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to notify the school every time a student is absent.
