Kadena ES Principal's Message

"WHERE KIDS COME FIRST"
WELCOME TO SCHOOL YEAR 2019/2020

On behalf of the teachers and staff, I welcome all of you to Kadena Elementary School, home of Sushi, the Angel Fish. We are over 65 years strong!

It is our pleasure to welcome students, parents and all stakeholders to our new 21st century facility. We warmly accept the responsibility to "educate, engage and empower" all of our students to achieve their highest potential in all academic areas as they develop and become responsible citizens and lifelong learners. We welcome all students to join us.

We have a strong sense of pride for our school and provide a curriculum that not only aligns to the DoDEA standards, but is also relevant and rigorous enough to prepare our students for the 21st century. At Kadena ES, we provide a safe, positive learning environment where students are given ample opportunities to reach their potential.

The teachers, staff, and I follow the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Curriculum standards and programs. We work collaboratively with the children, parents and the community through the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), the Continuous School Improvement Team (CSI), and the School Advisory Committee (SAC).  We also offer activities like monthly meetings with the principal, community nights, and other school events to support our students. We are committed to developing the 'whole child' which includes the intellectual, social, emotional, physical, and cultural growth of the child.

With a diverse student population, KDES has an extensive cadre of staffing, student support services, and after-school clubs to support learners. Kadena ES staff members are trained to provide services to preschoolers, students with unique learning needs, students whose native language is other than English, gifted education students, and families at-risk or in crisis. Our students are provided with specialized instruction in Art, Music, PE, and the Japanese culture, history, and language.

We cannot do it without you. Research has shown that there is a direct and positive correlation with parent involvement and student success. A partnership between school and home is crucial. We welcome and strongly encourage parental and community collaboration to create a positive school and home-learning environment. Please contact any of our administrative team if you have questions, concerns, or positives to share.

Please take time to examine our school website, "Like Us" on Facebook, review our parent-student handbook, and/or contact us. Once your child is enrolled, I encourage you to fill out a volunteer packet. If eligible, I also invite you to apply with DoDEA as a substitute teacher. Applications are available online at www.usajobs.gov or stop by our front office for information. Please note that the process for subbing can take time, so the earlier you apply, the better.

Again, welcome to Kadena Elementary School. The entire faculty and I look forward to working with all of you. Kadena ES is the place ‘Where Kids Come First.’

Thank you,

David Ballesteros-Burkett
