Maxwell AFBEMS Music Program

Elementary School Music

Kindergarten - 5th Grade

Two, 30-minute classes per week in which students learn, in addition to singing, basic music theory and explore world cultures.

4th Grade

The recorder is introduced in 4th Grade using Recorder Karate.

4th and 5th Grades also explore the genres of opera and Broadway.

The Maxwell Singers

  • Who can participate: Any 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader is welcome to join the choir.
  • How to join: A permission slip is sent home at the beginning of the year.
  • Practice: We meet after school on Mondays and Tuesdays for 45 minutes. Students are asked to attend one of the two rehearsal days.

The choir performs a winter concert and participates in the Maxwell and Gunter tree lighting ceremonies in early December. In the spring, the fine arts come together for Night of the Arts, a celebration of the students' accomplishments in art and music.

Middle School Band

Band is one of the electives offered to the middle school students. It is one class for all levels.

The goal of the ensemble, while making music, is for each student to learn how to listen to others and work as a team to create a great sound.

  • The student and parent sign an agreement form at the beginning of the year taking responsibility for the instrument during the school year.
  • Class time is used for ensemble rehearsal.
  • The Band performs at the winter concert as well as Night of the Arts in the spring.

If a student and/or parent feels more direction is needed, lessons may be set up with a private instructor of choice.
