Background Information: The South Carolina/Fort Stewart/DoDDS Cuba District opened Murray Elementary, in August of 2014. Several years went in to the planning and building of the school. The new school includes many innovative features and teaching and learning will emphasize the integration of technology.
Although the Fort Stewart School's enrollment remained the same, Murray ES allowed the schools to re-zone, providing enrollment relief to Diamond, Brittin, and Kessler Elementary Schools. This rezoning eliminated the need for busing, and provided easier access for student to attend schools within walking distance of their homes.

Medal of Honor
July 5, 1945
Our school is named in honor of Colonel Charles Patrick Murray, Jr., United States Army Medal of Honor recipient.
Colonel Murray displayed conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy by commanding Company C, 30th Infantry, displaying supreme courage and heroic initiative near Kaysersberg, France, on 16 December 1944.
While leading a reinforced platoon into enemy territory, Murray fired from an exposed position, disorganizing the enemy ranks and forcing their withdrawal. He then moved with his patrol to secure possession of a bridge and construction of a roadblock, capturing enemy troops while sustaining injuries. By his single-handed attack on an overwhelming force and by his intrepid and heroic fighting, then 1st Lt. Murray stopped a counterattack, established an advance position against formidable odds, and provided an inspiring example for the men of his command.Read the full citation
