As the Nation mourns the loss of President George H. W. Bush, the President has declared December 5. 2018 as a federal holiday and issued an Executive order to close Federal offices and excuse all Federal employees from duty for the scheduled workday on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, except those who, in the judgment of the head of the agency, cannot be excused for reasons of national security, defense, or other essential public business.

In observance of the National Day of Mourning, all DoDEA organizations, including all schools, will be closed on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. The DoDEA Regional Directors for Student Excellence have the authority to approve exceptions to this closure guidance for special events already in progress when recommended by a DoDEA District Superintendent.

For pay and leave questions, The Office of Personnel Management has provided implementation guidance for the National Day of Mourning.
