Willkommen to Deutschland! The Faculty and Staff of Netzaberg Middle School are looking forward to your arrival for School Year 18-19.
The Grafenwoehr area has a rich history; the facility recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary! Over the last 100 years, local residents saw the town of Netzaberg completely destroyed in the 1930s (then rebuilt over the last few years), Elvis Presley in the 1950s (he was stationed here during his tour), and US, German, and NATO troops train. Approximately 80 years after its destruction by Hitler, the rebuilding of the Netzaberg community includes our school, Netzaberg Middle School. We are in our eleventh year. Grafenwoehr Middle School was a temporary home for two years while the Netzaberg facility was built. Like so many things in Germany, the Grafenwoehr Training Facility and the Netzaberg area are a beautiful mix of old and new.
The administration, faculty, and staff are dedicated to quality education for all of our middle school students. Mr. Brady, DoDEA Director, set two priorities for our organization after his first 100 days in office. The first key priority states:
• Strengthen DoDEA’s standards based educational system by transitioning to: College and Career Ready Standards infused with rigor and relevance; and a common aligned curriculum, instructional framework and assessment system.
A wide range of programs are offered to expand the students? physical, cultural, and intellectual development. We also realize the importance of developing in each student an attitude of self-respect and self-worth; therefore, we will also focus on character development throughout the school year.
Communication between the home and the school is very important to ensure maximum benefit in your child’s educational experience. We encourage you to visit the school often. We hope you will become involved in your child’s education through such programs as the PTSA, School Advisory Council (SAC), Volunteer Program, and School Improvement Team. Parental support is vital, and with your help, our new school year will be our very best! We have an open door policy. If you have any concerns about anything at school, please feel free to come in and discuss those concerns with us.
This handbook has been prepared to provide both students and parent’s information concerning our school policies and procedures. Please read this handbook carefully and keep it available for reference during the school year.
The partnership between home and school guarantees success for all students and your support is vital. As we form that partnership, we wish you and your children a successful and exciting 2018-2019 school year.
